WELCOME

Habits of Mind are research informed characteristics of successful learners. They are not Thinking Tools as such but the ways to think and act when trying to be a successful, autonomous learner.

How do Habits of Mind serve the new curriculum?

Habits of Mind fit perfectly into the new curriculum. They are the attitudes and attributes that give focus for learning and many schools are developing them to help their students become more independent.

How is your school developing Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)?

Habits of Mind are the framework that support all aspects of PLTS. They give students the language to develop their own mindful learning and allow students to take the lead in their own learning.

"Graham Watts' not-to-be-missed workshops are informative, engaging and fun. He will make you think as  you learn to help your students learn to think.  Drawing on his vast classroom  experience with students and professional development with teachers, you will find out how to transform schools and classrooms into homes for the mind." Professor Art Costa.

Following the success of Prof Costa's presentations in Wales in 2008 and 2009, this conference will further explore the Habits of Mind and their application in schools and colleges. Through a series of interactive workshops, delegates will learn about the Habits, learn how they can be taught, practiced and internalised. Examples from schools and colleages around the world will inform teachers of success stories and practical approaches that develop the full potential of the Habits of Mind. Delegates will also learn from schools and colleges across Wales about how they have made Habits of Mind a success for their students. These case studies will share the journeys taken by colleagues in Wales, in both the English and Welsh language.
